Thread Sketched
Добавлен 23 май 2016
Thread Sketched is mostly a "How To" channel describing watercolor paint and ink techniques. Fair warning that I will also post an occasional travel video since we live full-time in our 30 ft Airstream travel trailer.

What’s next for Threadsketched channel? Not sure. Future adventures perhaps, but finding purpose in life after the death of my soulmate, Diane, is my current priority. Current subscribers, thank you for your interest in my original channel content. My apologies for the change of plans going forward. I will certainly understand if you choose to unsubscribe. I hope, however, that you will hang around a while longer and join me in whatever path is chosen.

I am heartbroken for you. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do next. Sending positive thoughts.
Thank you!
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Sounds like you were blessed to have each other for 43 years, and no doubt she was fortunate to have your love and care through the time of her illness. I wish you comfort and peace as you explore what life looks like for you from here. Take care of yourself.
Thank you so much!
God bless you. I know what you are going thru. I lost my husband of over 41 years from cancer several years ago. Be kind to yourself you will cry for a long time. Anyone who tells you that you shouldn’t does not know about grief. Make sure that you eat daily. Even though you’re not hungry. Have things handy like cheese and crackers and other things that you don’t have to mess with. I found appetite changed. Eat anyway. Pray often . God is there for you.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful message. Sounds like you can, unfortunately, relate. Very good advice.
Why isn’t your paint bleeding? What are you using to stop the water from bleeding?
Does this has to be heat-set after the paint dries?
Does the color go to back side of quilt?
It does bleed through the 1st layer of fabric, but not through the batting. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this demo…while I have much to learn, watching experienced artists is always helpful
What is the benefit of aloe gel vs. water-is it just to contain it better?
Yes. Aloe gel gives a little more control. Thank you for watching!
Ok The most ANNOYING thing that people do on RUclips Is make a video and not talk!!! I have a big channel and when I sit there and expect people to read font that is too light and too small is time consuming. You will not get any audience if you don't speak.
Thank you for the advice. Perhaps you are correct, but since I don't want to talk and I really don't care about how big my channel gets, I guess I will remain silent.
Awesome...
Awesome
Inspiring tutorial, so glad I came across your channel
Thank you so much I loved your work
Where did you get the drawing that you traced?
do you pre-wash the cottons? looks like they are super crisp and flat so I am guessing no. These videos are so inspiring. Hope your squirrel chasing is bringing you and your wife joy😁
EXACTLY the information I was looking for! Thank you so much. This idea occurred to me the other day--inspired by kaleidoscope view of my iWatch face. I have a million of those images I've snap shotted. Is that a word? I like the way I can deepen the borders to add depth to the existing colors of a quilt block-in theory for me so far. I tried Sharpie and diluted the application with rubbing alcohol, and it did 'bloom' like watercolors do to diffuse and spread, growing fainter toward the outer edges. Your video was reassuring, inspiring, informative and beautiful. Thank you.
Hello. Love your work and videos🌹as well as the ideas and art you are showing. Can I please ask you what kind of embroidery machine have you used for this lighthouse design? Hope you will start again with more videos.
Very pretty. May I suggest something? To give this piece more depth you'll want to give the clouds shadows and lights. Mrs. Deb Watson, a professional watercolorist, shows how this is done in her videos. Here is a link to one of her cloud videos: ruclips.net/video/17vcQxCv-tw/видео.html I am a silk painter, but I paint portraits and wildlife on silk with dyes not inks. You have inspired me to try some silk pieces with inktense. I have full sets of both blocks and pencils, I've just never tried them. I will try now! 🙂 God Bless 😃
Very pretty! Right before this video I watched your other video showing you use aloe gel and inktense pencil on a pink lily. That was pretty neat. I'm about to watch part 2 of this video and I have 1 main observation....you eat a LOT of pimento's! Hahaha! God Bless! 😃
Thanks for watching!
Very good job
Thank you!
Yay a lefty doing some crafting.
🤩🤩🤩
I find the primary downside to being a lefty is the ink on my hand when drawing with pens/markers-I tend to apply the ink tense dry then add water with paintbrush as with the brush I don’t rub my hand over what I’ve just drawn
Is the gel used just so you can blend?
The gel does aide in blending, but it also helps control, but not completely stop, color bleeding.
Do you use a fabric medium at all ?
Hi Donna. In this video I did not use a fabric medium. Of course that will mean that the paint/ink is more difficult to control. Thanks for watching.
Finally a tutorial I can follow. Thank you for leaving the words up long enough so I can read them.
Thank you for stopping by and for the comment!
I love that you used good music (not hard rock noisy stuff) and that your used text to note what you do. And - you do it very well!
Thank you so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed the music and the work :)
Which pen have you used for tracing?
Thanks for watching! I use the pentel arts gel roller for fabric pen.
Woow good 👍👍
Which fabric is that?
Thanks for watching! The fabric is 100% cotton 200 thread count.
I've recently "re"-stumbled across these videos of yours. I see you haven't posted anything in two years. Hoping it's just because you are enjoying traveling with your wife. This video has given me lots of ideas of traveling with the dh and STILL being able to quilt and do my art. Looking forward to further videos.
HaHa Robin! Thanks for "re" watching :) Still around, just lazy about posting videos. Had all kinds of plans of becoming a viral RUclips vlogger, but I end up following so many squirrels that keep running in my path. I am too easily distracted by other interests. We are still out and about traveling. Maybe our paths will cross one of these days. Thanks again!!!
@@ThreadSketched I'm soooooo glad to hear that you are just enjoying life! And that you weren't a "covid casualty!" Have fun and if you post another video, I'll be most happy to watch it. Iif you don't. I'll know you and your wife are just having fun!
Technical question: Do you heat set, wash out the Aloe gel? What does the fabric feel like when finished?
Thanks for the question Beatrice. I typically do not heat set anything. It is not necessary based on my own experience. There is also very little, if any stiffness to the fabric.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for watching!
Amazing work! I have just bought at set of 72 colours . Will definitely try this . One question: why don’t you activate it with water ? Will it spread too much ?
Thanks for watching! The aloe allows for more control than water.
Thank you for your prompt reply! I will certainly try it with aloe Vera gel. Can one use painting medium? I do have that at home.
@@saraswativaidheesh2160 Yes, painting medium is an option. It will probably make the fabric a bit stiff, however, so maybe test it on a scrap of fabric 1st.
So Beautiful...
Thank you so much for watching, Judi!
Will this medium work well with the intense stick paint also?
Thank you for watching, Wanda. Yes, the medium does work with the Inktense blocks as well.
Where can i purchase the outlines please. I realise they are machine embroidery so i am prepared to purchase them in any machine format.. emial address is available any time... Ruth
OMG how gorgeous are these and your bee is beautiful.. I would like to know where i can purchase the machine embroidery outlines please.. I can nnot find where you sell them.. Ruth
Thank you so much Ruth, I am so glad that you enjoyed the video. I no longer sell designs as a business. I have, however, been considering making the designs available again, but instead of paying me, I would ask recipients to donate proceeds to a well known charitable organization that is near and dear to me. I will have to dust off my software program to see if I can still send design files. My old outdated website contains my email address if you decide to communicate further. Thanks again for your comment.
When it dries, is the ink permanent or do you heat set it? Thanks so much for the demonstration!
It is permanent when it dries, and I have never heat set any of my paintings. There will be a bit of fading, however, each time it is washed similar to that of clothing over time.
Beautiful
Thank you for watching Pamela!
WHAT!!! WHAT JUST HAPPENED? The video stopped... I want to SEE more!! I loved this video...
Thank you for watching Judi!
I am amazed! Telling my friends about your video.
Thank you so much for watching!
Is there a reason why u use gel just wondering
Because the gel provides a little more control than water on the fabric. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful, gorgeous art work love it and your responses are very detailed and satisfying. Thanks for sharing with us and I am your new subscriber.
Thank you so much Saira for the kind comment, for enjoying the video, and for subscribing!
What kind of pen you use in painting.tell me plz.
Inktense pencils and blocks is what I use for color. I assume that's what you are asking?
I love watching you create beautiful things. I have watched all of your videos, and look forward to more. I have owned the pencils & the blocks for a couple of years now. You have inspired me to get them out & use them, it's been a little while since I have used them. They are pretty wonderful. Thank you for your videos, they are amazing!
Thank you so much Sharon! It has been a while since I have posted a video. Life gets in the way :) You have inspired me to at least THINK about posting another. Stay tuned, maybe soon, and thanks again!
This is beautiful 🌸
Thank you so much!
Can we use fabric paint withe gel instead colour pencil
I have never tried using gel with fabric paint.
Thread Sketched thank you🙏🏻
Hi. Don’t know about the gel you applied. Please tell about this🙏🏻
Thanks for watching. The gel is called aloe gel and can be purchased at most drug stores.
I ran across your wonderful video and will give this a try with the gel pens. I am doing an old truck and with the Inktense pencils they bleed over into another color, it's great when I want them too. But a serious problem other wise. When do you press the wonder under onto the fabric, before Painting or after?
Thanks for watching! Yes, it is difficult, if not impossible to control bleeding of color. This technique is definitely not fool proof, but I have had decent results with practice. Good luck!
Wowww Iove it ..AMAZING vidio ...thanks for sharing your vidio..I'm a new friend here.
Thank you so much for stopping by and viewing the video! Glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent tutorial. I will try your method with my set of Inktense pencils. The aloe gel seems perfect for me, perfectly natural.
That great Helen! Thank you so much for watching!
